GUIDED BY THE ACTUAL NEEDS, DIGNITY, AND VOICES OF THE PEOPLE WE SERVE

At the Organization for Human Relief (OHR), we believe that meaningful and lasting change can only happen when communities lead their own solutions. For over a decade, OHR has been working alongside women, youth, and marginalized groups in Afghanistan to create inclusive spaces where dignity, opportunity, and equity are not aspirations—they are realities.
OHR is more than a humanitarian organization. We are a women-led, rights-based, and community-centered movement that transforms lives through a combination of psychosocial support, livelihoods improvement, community development, education, health, humanitarian aid, and social cohesion initiatives. Our approach is rooted in equity, inclusion, and empowerment—ensuring that every individual, regardless of gender, age, ability, or background, has a voice in shaping their future.
Our strength lies in centering those most affected in every stage of program design and implementation. From remote districts in Nuristan to communities in Bamyan, our teams engage directly with local leaders, religious figures, community elders , and vulnerable groups to ensure programs are culturally appropriate, locally led, and sustainable. This approach not only builds trust but also strengthens community ownership, ensuring that interventions continue long after projects end.
Over the years, OHR has achieved tangible results that demonstrate our commitment, effectiveness, and result-based approach. We have provided psychosocial support, vocational skills training, emergency treatment, livelihood support, education assistance, hygiene promotion, and humanitarian aid to women survivors of violence and vulnerable groups across Nuristan, enabling them to generate income, gain confidence, exercise agency in their households and communities, and access essential health and education services. Through community mediation and conflict resolution initiatives in Bamyan and Samangan, we have strengthened social cohesion, helping communities resolve disputes peacefully and collaboratively. Our emergency assistance programs and quick impact actions in Zabul and Khost provinces have delivered rehabilitation through cash-for-work initiatives combined with community peacebuilding. In Kunar, our access to education initiatives empowered rural girls to pursue schooling while advocating for the removal of barriers to education. Through advocacy efforts in Nangarhar, we have supported communities in voicing their health concerns and securing access to health services. Across all our initiatives, services are integrated with essential support and counseling, fostering resilience, restoring hope, and ensuring that interventions have a lasting, meaningful impact.
Innovation and adaptability are at the core of how we work. We combine local expertise with evidence-based practices and adaptive strategies, using technology where possible to increase reach and efficiency. By collaborating closely with donors, civil society, and grassroots networks, we amplify the impact of our programs, strengthen local systems, and create pathways for long-term change.
Choosing to work with OHR means engaging with an organization that turns challenges into opportunities. Our interventions not only respond to immediate needs but also build the foundations for sustainable community-led development. We transform aid into empowerment, vulnerability into resilience, and hope into action.
OHR is a partner, an advocate, and a facilitator for transformative change in lives of the affected and vulnerable people and in communities. By standing with communities and supporting local leadership, we ensure that every project, every initiative, and every interaction contributes to a world where equity, dignity, and opportunity are accessible to all.
